Layered NMS system

The architecture of network managements is designed as 2 layers, EMS (Elements Management System) and NMS (Network Management System). It is a mature mode in modern telecom network. The NMS is the unified NMS or center NMS.

EMS:

EMS is low layer system. EMS can control usual work of equipment. EMS realizes basic function of network elements equipments. It can work independently for safety in conditions of failure of upper layer NMS. For different type of equipment or different vendors, there is their own EMS system. The EMS usually provides standard north interface connected to up layer NMS system by SNMP or CORBA protocol.
