The house is located in a small town of Ovidiopol, in Odessa region. Over the last 20 years, the new houses have been built in the town, and the old houses were reconstructed. But despite it, there are still many сlassical-looking buildings in the town that are typical for this region. They were built in the 50-60s years of the 20thcentury. So, we used them as a prototype for the new home.

The main task was to design a modern house with apparent traits of a Ukrainian home.

Because the house is located in the southern part of the Odessa region, and 6 months out of the year the weather there is warm and dry, it was decided to design a house in such a way that half a year, a relatively small living space of the house would be connected to the spacious yard. There is a full kitchen and dining room, as well as living room and even a home office with a bathroom in the open, summer part of the house. Also, the house is clearly divided into the private and public zones.

The typical layout of the yard in proportion to the building construction became a template for the project. Also, we were inspired by the local particularities of the fence installation using chipped shell gravel, and of course by the unchanging lath fence – a woven vine fence, which already became one of the symbols of Ukraine, and is actively used in many regions of the country even in our days.

On the western part of the property, the yard and the house is connected and shielded from the street by the metallic lath fence, which also protects it from the sun during sunset. Just as Ukrainian classical “hata”, the house is plastered using white lime plaster.
